It’s been the best thing that happened in beauty ads since, like, ever. Those curvy, confident, good looking women all smiles from the billboards, magazines and tv screens, stating that all women, with real curves, real flaws, are beautiful.

I believe the campaing has indeed had a great impact for women’s self-esteem, but now someone’s stating it’s not all so real.

In an interview with The New Yorker magazine, entitled “Pixel Perfect“, Pascal Dangin – the premier retoucher of fashion photographs – makes it clear he worked his magic on the real women bodies:

“The Dove ad campaign that proudly featured lumpier-than-usual “real women”, it turned out that it was a Dangin job. “Do you know how much retouching was on that?” he asked. “But it was great to do, a challenge, to keep everyone’s skin and faces showing the mileage but not looking unattractive.”” (source: newyorker.com).
