Last night, a small, ultra-posh crowd gathered at the Parisian Dior boutique in Avenue George V, for the launch of Dior’s latest accessory: a cell phone with a tag price that goes up to 18.000 euro (circa US$28.270).

How can it possibly be so expensive? Well, a Swarovski topping does increase the price. Moreover, the phone has all the usual gimmicks - photo camera, mp3 player, etc. - but it also comes with a phone mini version called “My Dior” that can easily be clipped to your keys or to the outside of your handbag.
And what’s that for, you ask? Well, the people at Dior know women very well, and they know how frustrating it is to rummage through your handbag when the phone is ringing and you can’t find it. This USB flash drive-sized mini-cellphone, that should be more accessible, will be able to get phonecalls and do other basic things.
As a matter of fact, the Dior phone is born as a women’s accessory, because apparently women use their cell phone twice as much compared to men: women use cell phones to call kids, best friends, moms and for business calls.

Prada, Armani and D&G have had a huge success marketing their phones, and Dior does not want to be left behind.Dior Chief Executive Sidney Toledano said: “In the same way that we have developed our watch and jewelry lines, we want to increase sales with the phone.”
Hey, if you don’t want to spend 18.000 euro, you can still get the “poor” version for only 3.500.
