Sunset Idea Houses‘ program began in 1998, creating solar-powered, green-roofed, eco-friendly architectures in the West’s rural regions, where there’s space for new constructions and substantial sized energy systems.
Livable and contemporary without being minimal, the SF Idea House is unique in that it’s the first Sunset Idea Project to rise in an urban setting and proves you don’t have to live in the wild, wild West to enjoy the benefits of eco-friendly design. Sunset has shown that eco-savvy design is just as suitable in urban lands and as it is in suburban neighborhoods.
What makes the home truly groundbreaking are the cutting-edge technology eco-features it incorporates, some of them still in experimental stages: photovoltaic electrical generation, a wind turbine, gray-water system, energy-saving lighting, “smart” computer-controlled house system, living roofs, ecological materials, and more, yielding a self-sustaining house with zero-net energy usage.
The Sunset home will be used as a demonstration residential energy project for the City of San Francisco’s Department of the Environment, as well as an exemplary home for the Pacific Coast Building Conference 2008. It will be opened from November 30, 2007 through January 27, 2008 on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 9am-4pm.
Located at 3029 25th St, San Francisco, CA 94110 (USA)
