Both consumers and brands are moving towards the organic and natural path

According to a new report released by Packaged Facts, a consumer research body, the recent boom in organic and natural personal care products is set to grow even more, based on strong consumer demand for natural ingredients.

The report predicts natural and organic products will grow 50% in the next 2 years. These pieces of information reflect the huge interest large cosmetics companies have shown in expanding in the organic direction.

The report states that key areas of product growth are non-chemical based personal care items: anti-aging products, shampoo, make-up, toothpastes, deodorants.

Whilst organic and natural shampoos and make-up have become commonplace in the mass retail environment, there has also been recent moves to bring natural hair dyes onto the market, both in the US and in the UK.

This rapid expansion in the organic and natural markets is explained as a consumer reaction to concerns about the health and safety of chemicals used. As a result of such rapid growth, what used to be known as the “alternative” market in cosmetics is now being referred to as the “second mainstream”.

Here are some organic beauty companies to keep in mind when looking for green beauty products:

The Natural Store the largest and best selection of natural, “green”, and environmentally-friendly products
Lavera all natural paraben-free skin care and makeup
Origins Online powered by nature, proven by science skincare and makeup
AfterGlow Comsetics natural and organic color cosmetics, free of parabens, synthetic dyes and petro-chemicals
Smallflower the international apothecary
Bigelow Chemists the 168-year old apothecary
H2O+rel sea-dreived skincare, spa, bath & shower, and fragrances

What are your favorite natural/organic skincare and beauty brands?

Oh yay!! Thank you sooo much for this info. I have been searching and searching for natural cosmetics for our family-this is perfect :) I love the H2O and will continue reading the other ones. We love natural products so much- especially the Topricin pain cream and their foot cream! Great for aches and pains…and the foot cream feels sooo great on my tired feet!
