Esca means electron spectroscopy chemical analysis

We’ve received many questions from our readers regarding ESCA makeup. What is it? Where can I buy it? How does it differ from other types or brands?

We’ll try to answer all of your questions here.

ESCA is not the name of a new brand. It’s the acronym of: Electron Spectroscopy for Chemical Analysis – which is a scientific analysis used to determine exactly what is in that particular mineral makeup. Only products that have been tested and that only contain natural minerals can carry the term ESCA on their label.

The minerals get micronized into fine, silky powders. Because ESCA makeup is purely mineral, there is no need to test the product on animals. Therefore, one reason more to love this kind of makeup.

Not only ESCA makeup does not contain any harsh chemicals, fillers, talc, preservatives, fragrance, dyes or other products that irritate the skin and clog pores, but it also effectively blocks ultraviolet rays and thus protects the skin from sun damage behaving like a natural sunscreen.
What more could you ask for from your makeup?

Which makeup brands sell ESCA mineral makeup?
Not all mineral makeup is created equal. Lately mineral makeup seems to be a trend and every cosmetics’ brand is suddenly launching a mineral makeup collection. Beware.
First of all, check the ingredients to see what’s in them. Secondly, consider that real mineral brands most likely only sell mineral makeup. Not tons of other mainstream makeup, and recently also ESCA.

This said, here are a few mineral makeup brands that sell natural ESCA makeup that we’ve tested and loved:

  • Pür Minerals
  • Afterglow Cosmetics
  • Cleopatra’s Choice
  • Susan Posnickicon
  • bareMinerals
  • Take a look at their sites, their lists of ingredients and the plethora of products available for you.
