Guyliner - the man-friendly kohl pencil - first made its appearance some time ago, as the new metrosexual guy accessory. Now, London high-street retailer Superdrug is about to launch Manscara, the little brother of Guyliner, the mascara especially created for men. Jeff Wemyss, Superdrug director of trading, insists that Taxi Man cosmetics are “not just for transvestites”.
I know the grungy rocker (i.e. Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain) or dark goth (i.e. The Cure’s Rob Smith) look seems the only type of male face one thinks of, when mentioning makeup for men; them and Captain Jack Sparrow. But Taxi Man creator Peter Kelly said: “We’ve developed essentials any guy would borrow from his other half. It’s about subtle make-up rather than wanting to create the drag queen look.”

And you know what? I see nothing wrong with cosmetics for men. Too many times I see guys or men that could use a little concealer or lip balm but would never consider putting some “girly stuff” on. But I say it’s just too easy for a woman to hide a blemish or undereye circles with concealer and then pile up layers of makeup (contour the face! emphasize the eyes! plump those lips!) on a daily basis, when men must face the day (sorry fo the pun) with the face they wake up with.
I say “bravo” for making Taxi Man, and I applaud men that have the courage to try different things.
